The Art of Marisol // An Artist Catalog

Marisol was primarily a sculptor whose work was known throughout the 60s and 70s. Though close friends with Warhol, her art often existed in his shadow, leaving many possibilities of what could have been with her success. Regardless, her work commands presence, involves a lot of fabrication, and always used various materials. I chose to have the catalog reflect this through a square book, blocky type treatment, experimental typography, and 3D elements. I wanted the sculptures to interact with the text to make every major component of the book feel like it is one unit.

It was important to make the book have playful interactive elements that went beyond the page. Sculpture as a 3D medium commands attention and takes up the space around it, and I wanted the book to reflect that in its own way.

“I’ve always wanted to be free in my life and art. It’s a s important to me as truth” - Marisol
